Om Mani Pad Me Hung, A Mantra, A Bangle

This particular piece was made for a woman who had a brother undergoing an organ transplant. This was his homecoming gift.  She asked me to engrave the inside with “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.” It’s one of the most rewarding items I’ve ever made. She wrote me after he got home and told me he loved the bangle so much.

Om Mani Pad Me Hung is the most powerful mantra that a person can say in a breath.  It will protect you, empower you, clear your mind.  Remember to say it whenever you look at your wrist.

Mantra is flanked by Dorjes.  The Dorje represents the male energy in Buddhism.  It also is often used to represent firmness of spirit and spiritual power.  Mahakala’s face can be found on the ends of the open bangle.

Mahakala is none other than the inseparability of compassion and loving-kindness. In the view of ultimate wisdom, there is no separation between the Awakened Mind of Buddha and that of Mahakala. Mahakala is a manifestation of the awakened mind.
