Will You?  Yes, Forever!

I had the pleasure of meeting a friend of a friend who needed help with making a purchase of an engagement ring.

He sent me pictures of items his beloved had been looking at on the web. The only problem with it was, I wanted him to get more for the money he was looking to spend so I created a much bigger ring than he expected for his budget.  I hope she won’t mind.

Om Mani Pad Me Hung, A Mantra, A Bangle

Om Mani Pad Me Hung, A Mantra, A Bangle

This particular piece was made for a woman who had a brother undergoing an organ transplant. This was his homecoming gift.  She asked me to engrave the inside with “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.” It’s one of the most rewarding items I’ve ever made. She wrote me after he got home and told me he loved the bangle so much.

Om Mani Pad Me Hung is the most powerful mantra that a person can say in a breath.  It will protect you, empower you, clear your mind.  Remember to say it whenever you look at your wrist.

Mantra is flanked by Dorjes.  The Dorje represents the male energy in Buddhism.  It also is often used to represent firmness of spirit and spiritual power.  Mahakala’s face can be found on the ends of the open bangle.

Mahakala is none other than the inseparability of compassion and loving-kindness. In the view of ultimate wisdom, there is no separation between the Awakened Mind of Buddha and that of MahakalaMahakala is a manifestation of the awakened mind.

All designs are raised and solid.

The Unisex silver bangle, Handmade, hand designed can be made in other metals upon request.

Bangle contains over 1.5 Troy ounces of silver at cast. Hand cleaned, polished and finished.

Italian Puzzle Ring

Many years ago, a friend and television colleague met a lovely woman with whom he became immediately smitten with. He was afraid she would not have any interest in him with his male pattern baldness and his average bank account (these were his words.)

He became her tour guide of anything she was interested in. They went to the museums, the botanical gardens, the parks, the restaurants with great food and the theatre.

One day, after years of going to see all that NYC has to offer, he confesses his love expecting a laugh in return. To his surprise, she was in love with him too.

He came to me and asked if I could make him a set of wedding bands like the antique ones her parents wore.  Of course, I said yes. Here is a silver version:

Holding Hands Ring, Resurrecting The Past 3

Holding Hands Ring, Resurrecting The Past 3

This particular piece is in two parts. It’s one of my favorites. When I was a little girl, I was in love with the fact that the two hands came apart. It was as if it were a puzzle. I’d admire it and the owner was happy to show me. Again and again.  He never minded that I was another business owner’s kid hassling him.

Sometime in the early Eighties, that owner and I became friends. I still looked at the ring over and over. He was happy to show me. Again and again. He’s no longer with us, but his love will always be with me as will the original ring. I’ve recreated it silver. I hope you’ll love it too.

Thanks for your friendship and your kindness, Bob, I miss you.

All Things Big and Small

All Things Big and Small

I do lots of repairs, sometimes they are small and sometimes they are ones that make you get your architect skills out.

This one was relatively small but it required me recreating something that looks so simple but was actually difficult.

How does one coil a leather string onto a piece of old amber and make it look like it was done without effort?

Celtic Themes

I’ve always had Irish customers who enjoy keeping in touch with their culture through jewelry. My daughter is half Irish so I like the idea that I have things around that are part of her culture.

I have a line of claddagh rings but I also have many bands. Lots of which are unisex.

I will have to post the crosses as well when I have a moment to photograph them!

Mini Engagement Ring, Resurrecting The Past 2

There are so many pieces that I love and I think I’m going to remake because they deserve to have a life.

This piece is from the same time period of 1890s to early 1900s designs. In those days, it was customary to celebrate an engagement with lots of signifying trinkets. Charms, pendants, pins, and of course, the engagement ring itself.

We have gotten away from the trinkets, all of which are very sweet pieces. This one is simple but I’ve made it modern with a black diamond. I’m happy to create it in any stone of your choice, it looks lovely with all colors!

I Love You, Resurrecting The Past

I Love You, Resurrecting The Past

There were pieces that I loved very much since I was a little girl. They were antiques then. I have now acquired the antique molds and models from those who created them around the turn of the 19th to 20th Century.

The piece is new, the metals I use are new, but the technology of making them and the tools used to make them are the ones from when it was first designed.

This is one of the pieces, a pendant, it spins to show “I Love You.”

Wearing a signature piece

Wearing a signature piece

Some years ago, I met and became friends with a lovely woman at one of my many jobs in television.  She had met someone whom she felt was her soulmate. They dated for many years, became engaged and planned a wedding, a home and a life together.

While shopping for dresses and invitations and all of the things people become involved with for their special day, they found out that he had cancer, and his prognosis wasn’t good. Kevin quickly became terribly sick.

Some time after they were married, he left this world, but while he was here he gave it much love and happiness.

My friend and I came up with a special Christmas gift for her late husband’s mother – I took a copy of his signature and replicated it into a heavy silver signet bangle.

When you fall out of love

When you fall out of love

Sometimes you find yourself less enthusiastic about a piece you once loved. That’s where I show you that you can love again.

I had a friend who loved, so very much, her engagement ring. I met her through her husband many years ago.  He called and asked me to help to try and do something with the ring she loved but is now out of love with and no longer wears the ring.  For the next 18 months, we spoke on and off about what she may like.  I finally told him I’m making a decision. Please come with her and the ring and I will end the indecisive behavior and wow her.

He was hesitant because we are friends and what if his wife doesn’t like what I made and then I’m insulted. I told him not to worry. I won’t be insulted.

When they arrived, I had prepared a few items that I thought she would like. I wanted the ring to be something so completely different that it’ll represent a new journey of their married life. The result:  he proposed again and she said yes again.

Replacement!

Replacement!

Sometimes I am asked to make something to replace a lost or stolen item. In this case we are not sure which it was, but it was most likely stolen because the person who asked me to design something for him was quite upset when he told me why he wanted a new ring.

The ring I designed isn’t something that most people would choose. It’s heavyweight, solid and the diamonds are substantial. This person is substantial in size and personality. He’s no one to mess with either. This ring was all of those things. Serious and fierce.

Make Something I Would Like!

Make Something I Would Like!

A long-time customer had received a ring as a reward for her incredible accomplishments at her company. For many years, she wore the ring to company events to empower the women in her team that they too can achieve the same heights.

At one point, a diamond had cracked from many years of wear and tear, the shank became warped and then another diamond was damaged. She felt that it was time to do something different with the ring rather than replace the diamonds.

She brought the ring to me and said please make it into something new that I’ll love.

I made a band to match another ring I had made for her.

Designing an Engagement Ring

Designing an Engagement Ring

My customer’s son heard about me, surprisingly, not from his dad!  Delighted to hear that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, we designed a ring just for her. I had to keep it a secret and that is why other friends recommended me and not his dad. His family didn’t know!!

After telling me a little about his girlfriend (what she does for a living, what her family heritage is, how active she is in sports, her likes and dislikes in fashion) I came up with a design and created it in wax and then in white gold.  I decided something simple and elegant but showcasing her culture in the ring.  Here is a Celtic Engagement Ring I designed.

Design and Remount

Sometimes a customer will bring me a piece of jewelry they’ve acquired from a previous generation but it’s not their style.

This is what I did with one particular piece, keeping in mind everything the customer has and creating a ring that reflects her style but will give her a bit of “Wow” factor without being overpowering.

A Happy Recipient!

I was asked to create a ring.  I was given a verbal description.

I put a little of my own idea into it and created a ring I thought was just the right amount of “Wow” factor.

In return, I got a major Thumbs Up!
